The four Gospels—according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—are not just ancient biographies of the man Jesus of Nazareth; they’re what we might call theological biographies. They are inspired accounts that ultimately tell us something about God and his purposes in redemptive history. Specifically, they were written to declare that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and Son of Man, who is now “seated at the right hand of the power of God” (Luke 22:69). But here in this passage, the sinless Son of God stands accused before the Sanhedrin. In this sermon, Pastor Matt shows that it is ultimately all of humanity that is on trial before God, who stands guilty before the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet by faith in his name, we can be justified.
