Two Women, Two Covenants (Gal. 4:20-5:1)

Far from being an issue only faced by the Galatian church, the tendency to slip back into justification by works is a present reality in the church even today. The difference between gospel-centered law-obedience is far too easily replaced by a works-driven law-reliance. However, the solution for the true believer is that we must always remember our identity in Christ Jesus: we are no longer slaves, in bondage to the law and its curse, but we are sons of God. In this sermon, Pastor Matt walks through Paul’s brilliant argument, drawn from the lives of Sarah and Hagar, Isaac and Ishmael, in order to see the beautiful reality of being a child born through promise, according to the Spirit, to live in freedom from the law; “we are not children of the slave but of the free woman. For freedom Christ has set us free” (Gal. 4:31-5:1).
