A parable is a story or saying designed to teach a deeper truth through a comparison with every-day realities. Greg Lanier explains why Jesus told parables: “Like the prophets of old, Jesus used parables to reveal the mystery of the kingdom, to stimulate reflection on sin, to call people to repentance—and to produce the opposite among those hardened against him” (see Matt.  13:10-17). Teaching in the temple courts shortly before his imminent crucifixion at the hands of the religious leaders, Jesus tells a parable about a vineyard, its Lord, and his tenants. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains the meaning of parable of the wicked tenants and points us to Christ—the rejected Son who, by his resurrection, has become the cornerstone of God’s new temple.
