The first part of the book of Acts ends with Stephen’s death and the persecution of the Jerusalem church. However, the attempts of Saul and the religious leaders to destroy the Christian church only served to bring about the fulfillment of the words of Jesus spoken in Acts 1:8, as believers were “scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria” (Acts 8:1)! In chapters 8-12, the Holy Spirit will begin to transform these regions and the people beyond the city of Jerusalem as they receive the preached word and believe in the risen Lord Jesus. In this sermon, Pastor Matt proclaims that nothing can stop the good news of God’s kingdom under the saving rule of Christ. We preach the gospel of King Jesus to all nations, trusting his church to be built by his sovereign grace.
