Having received a vision from God in which all food was declared “clean,” Peter’s eyes were opened to see the ever-expanding redemption story of God’s love for a people from every nation. Just like all food was pronounced by Christ to be clean for eating, so Peter is to no longer refuse to be among Gentiles and withhold the gospel from them. God shows no partiality in choosing where his people are from, for no one is worthy of his grace! Instead, we are to preach the good news of peace with God to all nations. And this is exactly what Peter did, beginning with the household of Cornelius. In this sermon, Michael Tryon proclaims the gospel of Jesus, the crucified-risen Lord who is both the impartial Judge of all and the forgiving Savior of those who believe in his name.
