Peter began his sermon on Pentecost by quoting the prophet Joel, explaining that God had finally poured out his promised Holy Spirit on all flesh. In these last days, whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But having mentioned “the name of the Lord,” he draws the attention of the Jews to the man, Jesus of Nazareth. He spoke of his rejection and crucifixion, but also of how God raised him from the dead in victory. He then concludes by proclaiming the ascension of Jesus into the heavens, how God exalted him. In this sermon, Pastor Matt declares that Jesus is Christ the Lord, who pours out his Spirit and rules over his enemies; he is the risen King who offers salvation to the world.
