Acts is the second volume of the orderly account written by Luke (Luke 1:1-4). The first volume was his Gospel account, in which he “dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when he was taken up” (Acts 1:1-2). This implies that Luke’s purpose in Acts is to continue the story of the risen Lord Jesus! Far from being just a manual on the role of the Holy Spirit, missionary strategies, or church governance, Acts is the continuing story of God’s kingdom under the saving rule of Jesus Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains how Acts is all about the acts of the risen Lord Jesus, through the witness of his people in the power of his Holy Spirit, all in fulfillment of God’s saving purposes for the world.
