Greater Works Than These

John 14:12 has been one of the most widely interpreted verses in the church, especially in recent years. What exactly does Jesus mean when he says we will do greater works than he did? Are we to believe that the church today should be “outdoing” the miracles of Jesus? If his greatest work was “to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45), are we to suppose that we should be doing better than that? However, when we come to understand the context of the passage, as well as the the person of Jesus and the purpose of his works, this saying of Jesus begins to become clear. In this sermon, Pastor Dave looks at John 14:1-12 and explains what “greater works” looks like in our lives. There is something greater here than simply seeking signs and wonders – and it all comes back to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
