Isaiah 40 Revisited

For this Lord’s Day gathering, we spent time lamenting the sudden and tragic death of one of the precious children in our congregation, Orlando Vargas Jr., who died the day before his sixth birthday. We took time to weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15) because “if one member suffers, all suffer together” (1 Corinthians 12:26).

In this sermon, pastor Matt reflects on some of the words of comfort we have heard in Isaiah 40-48, for it is often in suffering that verses we have heard before and the truths we know take on a whole new meaning. He reminds us how God has been preparing us for this hard providence and how God’s word of comfort is a word that can cause those of us overwhelmed and paralyzed by suffering to take heart, fear not, and believe.
