Most of us are familiar with Matthew’s explanation of the birth of Jesus, when he writes: “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: ‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel’ (which means, God with us)” (Matt. 1:22-23). However, many Christians are unfamiliar with the passage in Isaiah where this prophecy is found, when this sign was first given. But do we need an Old Testament story to understand the gospel of Jesus? And does King Ahaz have anything to do with us today? The answer is a resounding “yes!” because this story is all about faith and our search for security. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains that perfect peace and rest are only found by those who trust in the Lord and his salvation.
