The Fulfillment of God’s Promises (Luke 4:16-21)

As if the events surrounding the outset of Jesus’ public ministry weren’t profound enough, Luke records yet another astonishing and pivotal moment in his gospel.  Having entered the local synagogue and read from the prophet Isaiah, Jesus rolls up the scroll and declares: “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:20-21). He was humbly yet boldly announcing the glorious truth that God’s purposes in the history of redemption were finding their fulfillment in him, the holy and anointed Son of God. He had come to proclaim the good news of God’s salvation to the world. In this sermon, Pastor Tim explains the life-changing truths of this announcement made by Jesus, applying it to our lives today and calling us to find freedom and abundant life in Christ.
