All throughout Scripture, we are given glimpses the promise that one day sin and death will be no more. In the Old Testament, we see hints of this future hope through different characters, prophets, and events, all of which point to God’s final answer to the sting of death and the power of sin: Jesus Christ, the salvation of God. He was the long-awaited prophet who had come to “proclaim good news to the poor” and “liberty to the captives” (Luke 4:18-19). In this sermon, Pastor Matt demonstrates from the raising of the widow’s son how Jesus is the greater Elijah, not simply because of his greater miracles, but because of his greater ministry as prophet, priest, and king (Heb. 1:1-3).
