The healing of the centurion’s servant—like the many other miracle accounts in the Gospels—is often understood to be highlighting the faith or belief of the centurion. Indeed, he is an admirable character, one to whom Jesus marvels and says, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith” (Luke 7:9). However, while his posture of humility and his great faith are qualities to be sought after and possessed by all believers, it’s easy to miss just why Jesus marveled at his faith. The focus of the story is not on the centurion but, again, on Jesus. In this sermon, Pastor Leandre shows that great faith is not about the strength or the level of our faith but about whether or not the object of our faith is the Lord Jesus Christ.
