Prepared to Follow Jesus, part 1 (Luke 22:21-30)

On the evening before his crucifixion, the true Passover Lamb was surrounded by the most wretched and pathetic of company. One of his disciples was about to betray him; another would deny him three times before morning; and all of them, his friends, would abandon him. Yet despite their pride, their selfish ambition, their failures, and their fear, Jesus continues to show them compassion and patience. He continues to bear with them and encourages them to be faithful to God and his kingdom in the hours before his death. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains that faithful followers of Jesus are those who trust God’s sovereign purposes and imitate Christ’s humble example, putting their selfish ambition and pride to death.
