The trial of the sinless Son of God reveals that all humanity is guilty. If we look closely and honestly, we will see our own face in the crowd that day, calling out for Jesus to be crucified and for Barabbas to be released. For whenever we reject Christ—living as though Jesus isn’t the King that he is, disregarding his claims to be Lord of all, and considering him to be a blasphemer—we in a sense are demanding his crucifixion and holding him up to contempt (Heb. 6:6). But this trial also reveals a picture of the gospel of grace. In this sermon, Pastor Matt proclaims the good news that God sent his Son into the world, in love, to take the place of sinners like Barabbas.
