After the devil had ended his temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, Luke tells us “he departed from him until an opportune time” (Luke 4:13). In Gethsemane, however, that time had now come. It was time for the Son of Man to be betrayed into the hands of sinners, to be led like a lamb to the slaughter, to be killed, and to give his life as a ransom. Jesus called it the “hour and the power of darkness” (Luke 22:53) and, for a time, it appeared that this darkness would surely prevail. Yet the darkness is no match for the Light of the world. In this sermon, Mitch Bedzyk shows us both what the power of darkness is capable of accomplishing and how the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ shines forth and overcomes it.
