Chapter 9 in Luke’s gospel is profound. After Peter makes the monumental confession that Jesus is “the Christ of God” (Luke 9:20), Jesus responds by saying: “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised” (Luke 9:22). Yet not only is his mission of redemption in the world becoming more clear, so is the path of discipleship for all who confess such faith in him: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). In this sermon, Pastor Dave highlights the love of God in sending his Son into the world to be our Savior and calls the church to a life of cross-bearing discipleship, unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
