In the introduction of Paul’s letter to Philemon, Paul began by acknowledging Philemon’s character and affirmed the demonstration of his faith in his love toward all the saints. He drew a picture of the family of God. And now in the main body of his letter, he shows us how to conduct ourselves in the family of God. He appeals to Philemon to receive a new member of God’s household, Onesimus. In this sermon, Pastor Keith walk through the text from verses 8-16 showing us Paul’s authority unexercised, Onesimus’ identity redeemed, and God’s sovereignty remembered. What we will see is that love is demanding, but we don’t demand love; rather, we appeal to each other to love in the family of God.
