Before he concludes his greetings, Paul changes course to give a few final words of exhortation to the saints in Rome. His love for the church leads to a desire to protect the church from threats that could undermine their unity. Like the Lord Jesus in his high priestly prayer, he wants to see the church remain faithful to the gospel, united in the gospel, and kept from the evil one. From Paul’s final exhortations we learn something about what a healthy Christian community looks like. We learn that a healthy church is one that strives to remain faithful to and united in the gospel. And in order to help the church remain united and obedient to the truth, Paul gives the church: a warning about false teachers, a promise of victory, and a prayer for grace
