God’s Persecuted King (1 Samuel 19)

After David defeated Goliath we saw how David was becoming God’s prospering king, successful and loved by many. But he wasn’t loved by all. Saul was becoming jealous of David; he was David’s enemy continually (1 Sam. 18:29). As a result of this hatred, God’s prospering King would also become God’s persecuted King. Saul tried to pin David to the wall with his spear. He tried to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. But this was just the beginning. Now in chapter 19 the saga of David’s flight from Saul begins. In this sermon, pastor Matt reminds us that the kings of earth may plot and rage, but God’s anointed King will reign. No hostility or opposition can hinder the coming of his kingdom. Our God will thwart every intention of his enemies in order to preserve his king and all those who are loyal to him.
