The Battle Is the Lord’s (1 Samuel 17)

According to pop culture, David and Goliath is as a story of bravery in the face of overwhelming odds, of not giving up and facing your “giants.” But as great and inspiring as the story of the underdog may be, this is actually not what the biblical story of David and Goliath is about! In context, this story follows chapter 16 and continues the theme of God choosing for himself a king to shepherd his people. The narrator continues to show David as fit to be the king of Israel rather than Saul.

In this sermon, pastor Mitch shows us that God’s faithful king leads us in victory over our enemies. Before we see how we need to be like David, we must see what this text reveals to us about the faithful king that God has provided for us in Jesus Christ, and how we can share in his victory over our greatest enemy: the power of sin, Satan, and death.
