The Faithful King We Need (1 Samuel 8 )

Chapter 8 begins the next major section of the book. It also marks a turning point in the history of Israel. Here we discover how God’s people came to be a nation ruled by kings. But this all came about as they experienced yet another crisis of faith. Once again Israel was faced with a choice: Will they do things their way or God’s way? Will they choose to be no different than the godless nations around them, or will they be the people of the one true God?

In this sermon, pastor Matt explains that the king we need the most is not like one the nations have. We need a king to do for us what only God can do: We need a faithful king who is both willing and able to save us from the power of sin, to put the whole world to rights, and to reign forever and ever.
