David has fallen. There is nowhere left for him to go except the grave. And that is exactly what Israel’s king deserves for his sin against God. He is a “son of death.” He had despised the word of Yahweh. Therefore, Yahweh rightly judged David. But with the word of judgment came a word of mercy. In response to David’s confession of sin, the prophet Nathan assured him: “Yahweh has put away your sin; you shall not die” (v. 13). And now, as we read the conclusion of this tragic story, we see the grace of God on display. In this sermon pastor Matt helps us see a truth revealed throughout all Scripture, that God’s grace brings new life out of death. And this he does for the sake of his name and the blessing of his people.
