As Christians, we often (and rightly so) focus our attention on the cross of Christ and his atoning death on our behalf. In fact, the cross has even become a symbol for Christianity worldwide. But the gospel is not simply that Jesus died for our sins and was buried, but also “that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Cor. 15:4). It is the resurrection that guarantees such glorious realities as the new birth (1 Pet. 1:3), forgiveness of sin (1 Cor. 15:17), justification (Rom. 4:25; 8:34), and even our own resurrection from the dead (2 Cor. 4:14; Rom. 6:4-5). In this sermon, Pastor Dave shows how the resurrection rewrites the doomed ending for mankind into a beautiful beginning for those who repent and believe the gospel.
