Though the name ‘Zion’ is often used in Scripture to refer to the capital city of Jerusalem and the mount where the temple was located, it becomes a rich symbol for the dwelling place of God and his holy people from every nation. Ultimately, it refers to the new Jerusalem—God’s glorious temple-city that will fill the earth (Rev. 21:1-22:5). Zion is the goal of creation and redemption, and it is founded on Jesus, the cornerstone, reigns as our Redeemer King. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains that the redeemed of the Lord live as citizens of Zion in hope of dwelling with our God forever. One day, believers will enjoy blessed communion with our Triune God in the new world he is creating for those who love him, and it is this hope that sustains us as we walk through the world.
