One of the most profound and mysterious truths of the Christian faith is the doctrine of the incarnation – “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). That Jesus was both fully God and fully man while on this earth, and that he emptied himself of his heavenly status and not his divine being, is absolutely essential to the gospel of our salvation. Yet many mainstream churches today boldly proclaim that Jesus ceased being divine while on earth, that he was only a man filled with the Spirit. This not only contradicts nearly two thousand years of orthodox Christian belief, but undermines the atonement and many other doctrines of our faith. In this sermon, Pastor Leandre defends and expounds the doctrine of the incarnation by examining John 1:1-14 and Philippians 2:5-11.
