Under the Old Covenant, when the Law was given to the people of God on tablets of stone, three thousand fell by the sword (Ex 32:25-29). But under the New Covenant, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on God’s people to write the Law on their new-creation hearts, three thousand were saved, baptized, and added to the church (Acts 2:41). Those who rejected Jesus deserved the same fate as those golden calf-worshiping Israelites! But while the letter of the Law kills, the Spirit gives life; the gospel is the power of God for salvation. In this sermon, Mitch Bedzyk declares that the promise of forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit is for all whom the Lord our God calls, and for all who call on the name of the Lord to be saved.
