The story of Peter and Cornelius takes up a considerable amount of space in Luke’s narrative because it was a defining moment in redemptive history. God had promised Abraham that not only would he and his offspring be blessed, but that in him, “all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen. 12:3). The kingdom of God has never been just about ethnic Israel but a people from every nation (see Isa. 49:6; Rev. 5:9-10). In this sermon, Pastor Matt teaches that those who have been cleansed by faith in Jesus belong to the restored people of God. Whether Jew or Gentile, it is only by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ that sinners are forgiven, justified, and welcomed into the family of God. There is only one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.
