Luke’s account of the Acts of the risen Lord Jesus reveals much about the nature of church. Here, we discover how the church is to be joyfully devoted to doctrine, fellowship, and prayer; that it is a miraculous community confirming the truth of the gospel; and how it is built only by King Jesus through the power of his Word. And in Paul’s farewell to the Ephesians elders (Acts 20:17-35), we see his vision for the continuing life of the church. In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains that the church needs Christlike shepherds to faithfully minister the gospel of grace. Paul’s speech isn’t just about who elders are, what they are to do, and what a church should expect from their pastors. This speech reveals what the church of God needs in order to be faithful and God-glorifying.
