In Acts 25-26, the story of Paul as witness on trial for the gospel comes to an epic conclusion before he reaches Rome. Everything has been building up to this moment where, in the providence of God, he gives the reason for his hope before the rulers of all Judea. Paul bears witness that King Jesus “is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent” (Col. 1:18). In this sermon, Pastor Matt again proclaims that the truth of the resurrection of Jesus demands a response from the world. Yet for those who repent of their sin and trust in the risen Christ, we are saved in hope. We aren’t only waiting for his return in glory; we live in confidence even now knowing that Jesus is reigning and that his kingdom purposes will prevail.
