His Hand Is Stretched Out Still (Isaiah 9:8-10:4)

Isaiah - sermon series at Elmira Christian Center

Immediately after the joy-filled promise of the Shining Son given in Isaiah 9:1-7, the prophet again turns to a message of judgment. He rehearses the many sins of which Israel was guilty in four stanzas, each concluding with the same refrain: “For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still” (Isaiah 9:12, 17, 21; 10:4). Those who fail to believe God, trust his promises, and obey his word will experience his righteous anger. But if God cannot let sin go unpunished, and his word of judgment will surely fall on all who persist in rebellion against him, what hope do we have? What can we do, and where can we run (Isaiah 10:3)? In this sermon, Pastor Matt proclaims that the only refuge from the righteous anger of God is the atoning death of Christ.
