Whom do you fear? Throughout its history, the church has always been faced with pressure to live out of a fear of man and this world rather than the fear of God. There is always the temptation to give into this world’s demands and live for the praise of man rather than God, proving that the leaven of the Pharisees is quick to spread and affect our hearts (Luke 12:1). Jesus here teaches again about the marks of true discipleship, focusing on our confession of and witness to Jesus Christ before men. In this sermon, Pastor Matt encourages the church to recognize the tragic short-sightedness of hypocrisy, to live in the fear of God, and to boldly acknowledge Jesus in dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
