Unique to Luke’s Gospel is the mention of two characters who play a small but profound role in the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. These two saints, Simeon and Anna, had been faithfully committed to serving and worshiping God. They knew that God had promised a Messiah who would come to save and restore his people and that God was faithful to act according to his word. Yet both Simeon and Anna were privileged to behold the Christ child as he was being dedicated to the Lord in the temple. In this sermon, Pastor Matt challenges the church to live a life of joyful obedience and whole-hearted service to our faithful God as we behold the glory of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection in the gospel.
