The self-righteous and hypocritical Pharisees were repeatedly plotting against Jesus and seeking to discredit him throughout his earthly ministry. When presented with mighty displays of his divine power over sickness, they still refused to listen to and believe in him. On one such occasion, Jesus used the opportunity to teach his fellow dinner guests about true humility and compassionate hospitality, ultimately revealing gospel realities of the kingdom of heaven (Luke 14:11). In this sermon, Pastor Dave points us to our Lord Jesus Christ, who humbled himself and laid down his life for unworthy sinners, that we might in turn humble ourselves and freely give our lives for others.
