In the midst of a life-threatening situation, David is calling upon the name of the Lord for grace. However, while it’s true that David’s need compelled him to pray (Ps. 86:1), he can only stay focused on his present circumstances for so long. As he seeks deliverance from the Lord, he begins to consider the glorious character of his God; and as he does this, his plea for grace becomes a song of praise. The next few verses present to us a worshipful confession of faith, a settled response of thanksgiving, and a wholehearted desire for godliness. In this sermon, Pastor Matt shows how thankful obedience is an expression of right belief in our gracious God— a right understanding of God which drastically changes how we live and pray.
