For those who have placed their faith in Christ Jesus, whose lives are now hidden with Christ in God, God is our shelter, our refuge, our fortress. He is our Champion. He fights for us, defends us, and delivers us. Not only is he overruling all things for our good and commanding the hosts of heavens for our securtiy, we are ultimately victorious over our enemies by means of our union with Christ’s death and resurrection. And, in the words of the great hymn by Martin Luther, “though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us!” In this sermon, Pastor Matt implores the church to fully trust and hold fast to her Champion, to rest assures that, in whatever trial we face, “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37).
