The northern kingdom of Israel experienced the judgment of God for their idolatry and was destroyed. Jeremiah now prophecies to the southern kingdom of Judah, proclaiming that God’s judgment would likewise fall upon them for their similar sin of idolatry, their failure to worship God as he deserved, and rejection of his laws. But what has been cause of Israel’s perpetual boasting in false gods such as their wisdom, might, and riches? This has been their constant struggle ever since their beginnings as a nation: sin, judgment, repentance, back into sin. In this sermon, Pastor Matt breaks down Jeremiah 9:23-26 and explains that the ultimate heart of the matter is that the heart is the matter.
