As we concluded the book of Proverbs in our daily, chronological readings of the Bible, we then came upon one of the most tragic sections of the Old Testament: “For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father” (1 Kings 11:4-6). Being the wisest man to have ever lived up to this point in the biblical narrative, Solomon’s downfall was definitely not because of some unknown sin that he simply committed in ignorance. Rather, Pastor Dave Leandre looks to Romans 1:18-32 and Proverbs 1:20-33 to discover that the rise of folly begins when men “by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” (Romans 1:18).
