It was on the night when Jesus was betrayed that he celebrated the Passover with his disciples. This meal was a memorial of the time when God had “passed over” the blood-covered houses of Israel, sparing their firstborn, and delivered them from Egypt. Yet while the inhabitants of Jerusalem were remembering the redemption of Israel from Egyptian slavery by Moses, Jesus was about to accomplish the ultimate exodus, delivering God’s people from their lifelong slavery to sin and death by his own death on their behalf. In this sermon, Dave Leandre explains the significance of the Passover, calling the church to remember the sacrifice of our true Passover Lamb and proclaim his death until he returns in the fullness of the kingdom.
