Psalm 86 is a prayer of David, the anointed king and judge of God’s chosen people, whose life was being threatened by the enemies of Israel (Ps. 86:14). In these final verses, he cries out to be delivered from the hands of the ungodly men who, by opposing him, stand opposed to the God of Israel himself! Here, he again confesses his great need, declares who his glorious God is, and offers up a plea for grace. But how do we, the New Testament church, understand and pray Psalm 86 today? In this sermon, Pastor Matt explains both how confident prayer is an expression of unshakable hope in our gracious God and how the gospel of Jesus Christ affects our prayers.
