To further bolster his argument against salvation by works, Paul brilliantly highlights the faith demonstrated by Abraham before he was circumcised. In so doing, he points out that “it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham” (Gal. 3:7); the blessing of Abraham is in fact available for Jew and Gentile alike who believe God. However, if we insist on living under the law, if we choose to rely on works of the law, the result will only be wrath and condemnation: “for it is written, ‘Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them'” (3:10). In this sermon, Pastor Dave shows how our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, became the curse for us in order that we too, by faith, might receive the promised Spirit of God.
