In preparing the way for the Messiah, John the Baptist made known that God’s judgment on the unrepentant was imminent. He had proclaimed: “His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire” (Luke 3:17). Yet when Jesus finally came, he came bringing mercy and grace! His ministry was one of healing the sick and preaching good news to the poor (Luke 7:22-23; Isa. 61:1); he came eating and drinking with sinners (Luke 7:34). In this sermon, Pastor Dave explains that while God’s glory will one day be revealed in final judgment, Jesus Christ came first to lay down his life for his enemies and make today the day of salvation for all who believe.
