The story of the wise and foolish builders, found at the conclusion of Jesus’ Sermon on the Plain, is a familiar one to most. Having taught on living the life of the kingdom and what it means to be an authentic disciple, Jesus warns those who would presume to call him ‘Lord’ yet fail to do what he commands. However, the issue is not one of simply getting our act together, and obediently doing good works; that might be good advice, but it isn’t good news. The issue is whether we are looking to our own works (our ‘house’) to save us, or if our obedience is resulting from a faith in the obedience of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-10)! In this sermon, Pastor Dave explains that salvation from the coming storm of God’s judgment depends on whether or not we are building on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
